Interview at a Cabot dairy farm, Fort Hill Farms

I first met Kies back in 2000. I was in high school feeding calves, milking cows, and she was a 3rd grader running around the house, living life on a small dairy farm. Her father, Peter, was my boss and also one of the “pioneers” of The Farmer’s Cow brand of milk, an effort to save the future of several Connecticut dairy farms. You can buy Fort Hill Farms milk via the Farmer’s Cow Brand (available in Connecticut grocery stores) and of course Cabot products.

More than two decades later, I came to see Kies at the newly built barn. While all the milking cows are in a fancy new facility complete with comfortable stalls and clean air, the milking memories still linger in the barns that her grandfather Ernie built.

Here is a basic interview I did with Kies, and her story and outlook of the future.
