Our First Flush of Shiitake Mushrooms!

As a photographer who's also an avid gardener, I couldn't resist snapping some shots of these shiitake beauties which surprised us by showing up on our logs today for the first time!

Waiting for Mushroom Growth

They say good things come to those who wait. After about a year and a half, we discovered shiitake mushrooms growing on our logs! My husband and I inoculated them last April. Earlier this year, when my friends’ logs started fruiting, I checked my logs and found two dry, shriveled up mushrooms on our logs. We thought perhaps they didn’t grow because we forgot to water our logs…but lo and behold, today (it’s early August) our logs are covered in mushrooms!

Photos of My Shiitake Mushrooms

Naturally, as a professional photographer, I immediately went in the house to grab my camera. Check out these snapshots of our mushrooms we harvested in our shady woods.
